The choice of models, technologies and designs in the world of weed vaporizers is so vast that it is necessary to clarify some points to understand what we are buying.
One of the things that most affects the performance of a vaporizer is definitely the type of technology used to create the vapor stream: convection technology , conduction technology or the latest hybrid technology.
Let’s look at these two technologies a bit more in detail to understand the pros and cons of each one.

Conduction vaporizer

According to Wikipedia, the thermal conduction is “the transmission of heat in a solid, liquid or aeriform medium (inside a body or two bodies in contact with each other) from the higher temperature areas to those with lower temperature”; to make a practical example, of thermal conduction occurs when you place a steak on the hot plate.
In a conduction vaporizer, the process takes place through a heat source placed in the vaporization chamber on which we directly put our beloved herbs.
Heat source and substance are then in (almost) direct contact.

PROS:

  • Simpler design, lower costs
  • Better battery life
  • Smaller size

CONS:

  • Vapor quality is slightly lower
  • Herb chamber has the tendency to get dirtier
  • Slight risk of combustion

Here are some of the best conduction vaporizers:vaporizer-pax-3-weed-vaporizer
Pax 3

The Pax 3 is an evolution of the previous Pax 2 vaporizer, it heats faster, it is lighter and it can even vaporizes concentrates.
It is the best portable vaporizer with regard to portability and discretion.

In fact, the Pax 3 will fit perfectly in your pockets, and hides completely in the palm of your hand and is also very light.
The vapor quality is good, especially considering the dimensions: it uses conduction technology.

It has 10 years warranty.
As for the Pax 2, the defects are a slight resistance to the flow of steam when inhaling.

DaVinci IQ 2davinci_iq_weed-vaporizer

The Davinci IQ is modern, compact, stylish and produces a vapor stream of excellent taste and density.

It has a 10-year warranty, a removable battery and you can control the temperature and other parameters through an app on your smartphone.

Boundless CFXboundless-CFX-weed-vaporizer

The Boundless CFX , is an excellent portable vaporizer, with an excellent quality of steam, and an enviable battery life.
Basically it is a step below the Mighty, of which it remembers the features and the display, but the price difference is considerable; remains a good compromise between quality and price, in its range.

AirVape Xairvape_x_weed-vaporizer

The AirVape X is one of the latest arrival among the portable vaporizers, but it is already has a strong reputation: it’s extra-thin, fast to warm and allows you to smoke herbs and concentrates.

Convection vaporizers

Start again from Wikipedia, describing convection as: “Convective heat transfer, often referred to simply as convection, is the transfer of heat from one place to another by the movement of fluids. Convection is usually the dominant form of heat transfer in liquids and gases.”

By leaving out the academic description of the physical phenomenon, we say that in our case the convection is when the hot air, generated by the vaporizer, “goes through” our weed, which is positioned above the heat source itself; weed  and heat source do not touch each other.

Having said that, who wants the vapor steam quality and tastes the flavors of his  substances sommelier style, must absolutely choose a convection vaporizer.

PROS:

  • Top quality vapor
  • No risk of combustion

CONS:

  • Larger dimensions
  • Higher prices
  • Greater energy consumption

Here are some of the best convection vaporizers:

Volcano Hybridvolcano hybrid vaporizer

The Volcano Hybrid is the best desktop convection vaporizer, often used for medical marijuana treatment. It uses an inflatable baloon to deliver a top notch vapor.

Firefly 2 Plusfirefly 2 plus uk weed vaporizer

When it comes to steam quality, the Firefly 2 Plus is second to none in our ranking of the best portable vaporizers.

With this convection vaporizer you can also use concentrates and oils, and even with these produces an excellent and almost velvety steam quality.

It heats up in 3 seconds, and produces immense clouds of vapor; its use is simple, so even a novice can use it without problems, while the expert loves it because of its excellent vaporization.

The battery is interchangeable and recharges in about 45 minutes.

In case you take it outside the home for long periods, like at the campsite or at a concert, I suggest you get an extra battery, in order to have one always ready to go.

Boundless Teraboundless-tera-weed-vaporizer

It seems that while designing this vaporizer at the Boundless hq, they keep in mind all the requests of the passionate weed vapers for a perfect vaporizer, which are: a convection vaporizer, replaceable batteries, capacity of the brazier and compatibility with water pipes.

This vaporizer contains all the characteristics that are most appreciated in the world of vaporization, including a vapor quality that I would certainly put among the best around, at least in this price range.
The Boundless Tera pays a little pledge in size, and in the heating speed, flaws that can be considered marginal.

Here are some of the best hybrid vaporizer

As can be deduced from the name, the hybrid vaporizers use a mix of conduction and convection to obtain the vapor that we inhale.
Basically, they try to enclose all the PROs of the two technologies in a single product; obviously, these too have their flaws.

PROS:

  • Vapor quality
  • Faster heating
  • Easier to use

CONS:

  • Larger dimensions
  • Greater energy consumption

Mightymighty-weed-vaporizer

As read at the beginning of the post, the Mighty is the big brother of Crafty, which it differs for the lacking of the LED screen, but not only.
The larger battery allows it, at the cost of a bit of portability, to last almost 2 hours, if used with care.

The steam quality is excellent and the vaporizer is robust and easy to use: in fact, the convenient display shows the set temperature and the battery status.

The cons of Mighty are the size a bit too abundant compared to portable competitors and the fact that the battery, however, can only be recharged by the power outlet.

Crafty Pluscrafty plus

Crafty is the younger brother of Mighty, reviewed by us some time ago.
It is a vaporizer that mainly uses convection technology to heat the grass, with a range of temperatures ranging from 40 to 210 degrees Celsius.

Thanks to the use of convection, it will produce a steam of excellent taste and definitely pleasing to the throat, causing no disturbance during vaping.

Very small and compact, you can keep it in your pocket and stay in the palm of your hand.
The new  “Plus” version has an improved battery and but can be charged via USB and can be used during recharging; the battery itself is not replaceable.

Final thoughts

As you could read, every technology has its merits and its faults; and as often happens, it will be the type of use you will make of it, and your budget, which will direct you to the perfect vaporizer.

Be careful, however, not to fall into believe that conduction = bad vapor, because it is not so: the overwhelming of conduction vaporizers are excellent products, and the danger of combustion is very low.

Also with regard to flavor, conduction devices are not so inferior to convection models: the biggest problem arises at higher temperatures, where the difference becomes a little more pronounced.

So, it’s the hybrid technology the future? We believe that when it comes to vapor quality, convection vaporizers still have a little edge over the other technologies.

But, again, there are other factors to consider, such as battery life, portability, discreteness.
